Poor old Bryson Dechambeau. With the weight of expectation hanging heavy on him not helped by his pre-tournament comments, the big-hitting man from California caught an awful piece of luck. Dechambeau birdied the 2nd hole to move to three under par for the tournament when lady luck deserted him. The rule Bryson was hoping might apply, Rule 16.1 (e) states
Puma Golf’s rolled out its new “Saltwater Collection” at the Hero World Challenge at the Albany Golf Course in the Bahamas this week. In the collection is the, rather tongue in cheek, Slow Play Golf Polo, which sports lovable turtles holding clubs and flagsticks in its design. Gary Woodland from the Puma fold was happy to wear the shirt but one Bryson DeChambeau, who can be seen on the website wearing the new creation, was not so keen to take to the course in it.
Bryson DeChambeau has been making much of his new physique ahead of this week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. The toughened up four-point plan did not result in any penalties but the general consensus was that the pace of play was better. Even Bryson DeChambeau seemed to have responded positively – might the penny be finally dropping?
Erik van Rooyen celebrated his 30th birthday most spectacularly at the WGC-Mexico Championship as the South African tied the course record at Chapultepec Golf Club with a sizzling 62. That nine under par round moved van Rooyen to a ten under total and within a shot of Bryson DeChambeau’s lead.
On a tricky final day at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill, Lee Westwood came agonisingly close to taking the title. In the end, it was Bryson DeChambeau with his massive hitting that nipped in to take the title by one shot.
Ten years to the day of his first major victory Rory McIlroy finally looked like he'd got his swagger back on moving day at the 121st U.S. Open. The man from Northern Ireland's promised to "freewheel" ahead of the event and the approach appears to be paying dividends.
It was a day of upsets at the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play. Bryson DeChambeau's loss to Frenchman Antoine Rozner was the shock of the day closely followed by the hefty defeat Rory McIlroy suffered at Ian Poulter's hands.
Four weeks on from his emotional first European Tour at the Belfry, Richard Bland shares the 2021 U.S. Open Championship lead. It is somewhat unexpected that the 48-year-old would look so at home at Torrey Pines, the bookies who had him at 1,000 to 1 ahead of the event.
