Talented English junior golfers, Corey Neville and Ellen Hume, have won the first events of the 2020 Faldo Series Europe calendar, securing their places at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club for the Europe Grand Final in November. Charley Hull crushed local girl and event organiser Liz Young’s dreams of a home course victory when she holed a 15-foot birdie putt at the first extra. Sadly there were no spectators at Brokenhurst Manor Golf Club in the New Forest to witness the exciting climax to the first Rose Ladies Series event.
Blimey, that was quick, said the Missus as I walked in the door after my well-earned 18 holes of golf. Everything is relative, as I had left her kipping in bed as I grabbed the sticks and headed off at 8 o’clock that morning and was returning almost four hours later! It was great to see Graeme McDowell win again on the European Tour but had the tour applied the slow play rules more strictly come Sunday afternoon might it have been a different story? The Northern Irishman was carrying a ‘bad time’ after a transgression during his second round and playing in the final pairing come Sunday he and partner Victor Dubuisson became detached at the back of the field.
