Pete Dye, designer of some of the world’s most famous golf courses, has died in the Dominican Republic at age 94. His family announced his sad passing on social media: “It is with much sadness that we announce our leader, mentor and hero Pete Dye passed this morning at the age of 94. The Players Championship is set to run into Monday for the first time since 2005 as storms continued to hit the TPC Sawgrass course in Florida. Tommy Fleetwood and American Tom Hoge lead the way on six-under after both managed to finish their rounds as scheduled on Thursday. The rain and storms on the opening resulted in the loss of five hours of play and an evacuation of all spectators.
England's Lee Westwood rolled back the years to take the halfway lead at TPC Sawgrass following a flawless six-under round of 66. It will be the third time Westwood has led the field going into the weekend at The Players Championship, the prior occasions being when he was a much younger man.
