The Players Championship is set to run into Monday for the first time since 2005 as storms continued to hit the TPC Sawgrass course in Florida. Tommy Fleetwood and American Tom Hoge lead the way on six-under after both managed to finish their rounds as scheduled on Thursday. The rain and storms on the opening resulted in the loss of five hours of play and an evacuation of all spectators.

India’s Anirban Lahiri who is ranked 322 in the world is the surprise leader of The Players Championship at Sawgrass. Five birdies in his first nine of his curtailed third saw Lahiri top the leaderboard a shot clear of Americans Harold Varner III and Tom Hoge. Lahiri has won twice on the DP World Tour and has had multiple wins on the Asian Tour but a win at Sawgrass would be a different level.
Pete Dye, designer of some of the world’s most famous golf courses, has died in the Dominican Republic at age 94. His family announced his sad passing on social media: “It is with much sadness that we announce our leader, mentor and hero Pete Dye passed this morning at the age of 94.
