The Englishman showed composure over the renowned links in Southport to defeat fellow Englishman and good friend Joe Harvey, 23, in an exciting 36-hole final. Long recorded a 4&3 victory, to become the first Englishman since Harry Ellis in 2017 to win The Amateur Championship.

I’ve just hit a tee shot with my driver and I’ve really connected. I mean, really connected. Which is unusual for me. Especially using someone else’s golf clubs on a course which is totally new to me. What’s even more unusual is that, two, three, four seconds later… the ball is still in the air, just hanging there like a scene from Happy Gilmore.

The game of golf has lost one of its greats. Peter Allis who was the 'Voice of golf' and commentated on golf for the BBC for some six decades, passed away suddenly on Saturday night. To us, he was simply the best! "It is with great sadness we announce the passing of golfing and broadcast legend Peter Alliss," said Alliss' family.
