Where we fancy around at posh dos with famous people

Our friends at Luke Roper have just had their annual golf day at the Welcombe Golf Course in Stratford upon Avon. It’s always a great day, as these guys love putting on a big show.

Last time we went we were treated to some great golf, followed by a superb set from no less than Reverend & The Makers. And this time they managed to surpass themselves, with comedian Bob Mills headlining, supported by the world famous Girls Roc and their fire routine, and ground breaking Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer.

On the golf pro front European Tour players Mark Foster, Jason Barnes and Matt Nixon were all there to tee it up.

Other celebs included Reverend & The Makers, Mark Bright, Dean Ashton, the Enemy, Kevin Kilbane, football presenter Clive Tyldesley, and former Sunderland skipper and now regular TalkSport pundit, Michael Gray.

This year’s event was in aid of the John Hartson Foundation, a fantastic charity set up by the former professional footballer, following his life-threatening battle with testicular cancer.

John’s cancer was diagnosed in July 2009 after he ignored lumps on his testicle for four years, by which time he was seriously ill.

The former Celtic, Arsenal and West Ham striker said: “I’d had two tiny little lumps on my right testicle for four years before I did anything serious about it. If I’m honest, I was pretty ignorant about the symptoms of testicular cancer and the importance of getting treatment early. I had no idea of the danger I was putting myself in.”

John – who was also capped 51 times for Wales – is now passionate about encouraging men to self-check for any worrying symptoms and launched the Foundation’s #knowyourballs in February of this year.

The Foundation rebranded two years ago with a distinctive new logo and call to action – Grab Life by the Balls.

In all £4,000 was raised for the John Hartson foundation, and a great day was had by one and all.

As John Hartson himself put: "Everything about the day was fantastic, the Luke team / family are wonderful people and treated us like one of their own. We are very thankful for their good will and generosity. It was an unforgettable day. Thanks so much for supporting the John Hartson Foundation.”

John Hartson and Luke Roper we salute you!
