It was a brutal day at Gleneagles with high winds, rain and low temperatures testing the mettle of both teams. Team USA came out narrowly on top taking the afternoon fourballs by 2½ matches to 1½ after the morning foursomes had been shared. So, it is all tied at 8-8 ahead of the twelve singles today and the Americans, given their past record in singles, must be viewed as the favourites.

American Ally Ewing will take on Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn in Sunday’s first semifinal match, while China’s Shanshan Feng, who won her quarterfinal match with a 50-foot birdie on the first playoff hole, will face off with Germany’s Sophia Popov.

As the Saturday play came to a close with Europe leading by 5½-2½ sadly all the talk was not about the great play from Team Europe but 'that ruling'. Nelly Korda and Ally Ewing won a vital point in the afternoon fourball matches but were assisted by a decision from the rules official.

Team USA fought back on Sunday, clinching 3 points in the morning foursomes to close the gap to one point, but Europe turned the momentum around in the afternoon to lead 9-7 heading into the final day. Rookie Leona Maguire, the first Irish player to represent Europe in the Solheim Cup, is having a phenomenal competition claiming 3.5 out of 4 available points.
