Goodbye and good riddance to anchored puttiing. The ban has now come into force. It's time to put(t) away the golf zimmer frame.
It was a fine victory for Adam Scott last weekend, he is a great ball striker, but I must confess I rather sighed when I saw him using a long putter to great effect once again. It was a similar feeling to that I had when Scott won the Masters back in 2013. I’m sorry, but I am with the brigade who consider these long putters cheat sticks.
If anyone was going to suffer with the banning of the broom handle putter, it was always going to be Tim Clark. A pro who has never used a short putter due to a physical complaint, and a vocal opponent to the ban, Clark isn’t going to let this stop him from playing on the PGA Tour.
With a potential ban for green books on the horizon, we’ve looked back at what other bits of golf equipment have been banned in competition (and occasionally had the ban lifted again) throughout the history of golf!
