The 22-year-old had won her fourth victory on the LPGA Tour since joining in 2017 at the Gainbridge LPGA, after what she coined a “stressful” day.
Laurie Canter followed up his incredible first round of 60 at the Italian Open with a four-under-par 68 to take a two shot lead going into the weekend at Chervò Golf Club. 38-year-old McGowan carded a bogey-free round of 64 to keep Canter in his sights as he bids to lift a European Tour trophy for the first time since the 2009 Madrid Masters.

Back last August the European Tour announced a four-point plan for dealing with slow play on the tour. They have now revisited the plan and beefed up the regulations and penalties. The new tougher regulations come into effect at this week’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA.
Matt Wallace of England retained his lead of the British Masters at a windy Hillside. However, he was looking over his shoulder as the tournament host, Tommy Fleetwood, closed to within three shots. Fleetwood, who at one point trailed Wallace by nine shots, played the last eight holes in five under to close the gap to just three.
This was to be a critical session for the Americans if they were to have any hope of retaining the Ryder Cup. But it was to end honours even for the session, leaving the US with a Medinah like mountain to climb as Europe go into the final day 10-6.

Brooks Koepka captured his first US Open last year at Erin Hills with a belligerent display of big hitting and aggressive scoring, devastating the Wisconsin course with a winning score of 16-under. He has become only the third man in post-war going history to retain that title in totally different circumstances.
