For the first time in her LPGA Tour career, Sophia Popov is the outright first-round leader. The 2020 AIG Women’s Open champion set a career-low opening-round of 64 at Pelican Golf Club this afternoon and holds a two-stroke advantage in the inaugural Pelican Women’s Championship presented by DEX Imaging and Konica Minolta. Thompson ultimately shot an even-par 70 on the day and is tied for 22nd.

Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen held her nerve to secure a dramatic play-off victory over Georgia Hall to win the inaugural Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by PIF. Hall had the advantage of a three-shot cushion with five holes to play but gutsy Pedersen clawed her way back following a rollercoaster round that included six birdies, four bogeys and one double bogey.

The stage is set for a Sunday showdown at the inaugural Aramco Saudi Ladies International Presented by PIF, with Welsh star Lydia Hall and Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen locked together at ten-under-par after rounds of 69 (-3) and 71 (-1) respectively. Darren Clarke tapped in a short birdie putt at the last to register his first win in forty efforts on the PGA Tour Champions. The big man from Northern Ireland won by a single shot from Jim Furyk and defending champion Bernhard Langer at the TimberTech Champions in Boca Raton, Florida. It was the first victory for Clarke since his Open triumph at Royal St, George's in 2011.

Brian Gay rolled in his long birdie putt at the first playoff hole at the Bermuda Championship to beat a man almost half his age and become the oldest winner on the PGA Tour since Davis Love III in 2015. "Well, this is absolutely insane," said Gay after his round. "I’ve been playing awful since Covid… it’s been a struggle. I’ve been trying to work hard and get back."

Saudi Arabia has today announced a world-first initiative that will offer free golf to women across the Kingdom. All players signed-up to the scheme will be designated as a Ladies First Member at either Riyadh Golf Club, Dirab Golf Club or King Abdullah Economic City’s (KAEC) Royal Greens Golf & Country Club, depending on their location.
