It’s the last major of the year, the U.S. Women’s Open. It has been an awful year but at least all but one of the women’s majors has survived, the Evian Championships being the one casualty. It will be a brave man or woman who will bet against the winner coming from South Korea.
2020 will be remembered for many things but it will go down in LET history as Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen powered to Andalucía Costa Del Sol Open De Espana victory, closing with a bogey-free final round six-under-par 66for a four shot win from home favourite Nuria Iturrioz. Accompanied by her father on the bag for her sixth career win, an emotional Pedersen, said,
Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen closed her second round with an emphatic eagle to post a silky round of 68 (-4) and hold a two shot halfway lead at nine-under-par from Lydia Hall, heading into the weekend at the inaugural Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by PIF. The halfway cut fell at +7, with 67 players advancing to the weekend.
It all started so well for Bryson. A huge three wood down the 10th hole and a short iron set up a short birdie putt. However, the slippery five footer failed to find the cup and suddenly it was all change. DeChambeau would only hit half of the remaining fairways but somehow he would find a way to shoot a two-under round of 70.
An 80-year-old Jack Nicklaus and the ever-youthful looking Gary Player, 85 hit the ceremonial opening tee shots to open the Masters Tournament at a dank and gloomy early morning at Augusta. “I believe they probably would have brought it back this year if it wasn’t for Covid, or at least they would have thought about it or got serious about bringing it back,” Nicklaus said
Stars of the Ladies European Tour are ready to make golfing history this week as they play in Saudi Arabia’s first ever professional female tournaments, taking place in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC). Held within a safe bio-secure environment, 108 of the tour’s best golfers are in the Kingdom competing for a total $1.5million prize-fund for the landmark Ladies European Tour events.
Originally booked to take place back in April – but postponed, due to the worldwide Coronavirus pandemic – the rescheduled 2020 Masters is fast approaching. Rory McIlroy and this year’s US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau are battling it out for favouritism in the recent US Masters odds, whilst last year’s Green Jacket winner, Tiger Woods, is as far out as 20/1.
Bryson DeChambeau is a man in form and his confidence is at an all-time high. The nine-under-par opening round in Las Vegas is the lowest opening round of DeChambeau's PGA Tour career and he leads by one at TPC Summerlin. It was a battle of the big hitters as DeChambeau was partnered with Cameron Champ and Matthew Wolff who he saw off in the final round of the U.S. Open.
Two-time major champion and ultimate GolfPunk John Daly has revealed his diagnosis with bladder cancer. The big man underwent surgery after the tumour showed up during a routine check-up for kidney stones. Although the cancer was removed there is sadly a high chance of it returning and so Daly will be under constant medical supervision for the coming year. . We wish the big man well!
American major winner Stacy Lewis captured the 2020 Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open with a textbook birdie on the first hole of a thrilling four-way play-off, after compatriot Cheyenne Knight, overnight leader Azahara Muñoz and Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen tied in regulation at 5-under-par. It’s a very challenging time for players of all standards. Attending the course or driving range is out of bounds however this time can be used to good use.
