I must admit to being quite confused when Maria Fassi received a two-shot penalty at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, which contributed to her missing the cut. It was not that I did not think she deserved punishment but rather why it was two shots and why were no other penalties handed out at the tournament? Hannah Green of Australia bogeyed the last two holes of the HSBC Women's World Championship at Singapore's Sentosa Golf Club on Sunday to hand victory to Hyo Joo Kim of South Korea. Kim stormed through the field with a best of the day eight-under-par 64 to take the title by one shot from Green.
Harris English defeated Chile's Joaquin Niemann at the first playoff hole to win his first PGA title for eight years. Harris's holed his six-foot birdie putt to see off Niemann and pick up the $1.34 million winner's cheque and the Sentry Tournament of Champions title.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout moved into the top ten of the Race to Dubai following his four-shot win at the Alfred Dunhill Championship. A closing three-under 69 from the South African left him on fourteen-under-par well clear of a group of four players in joint second. "I'm really pleased I pulled it off," said Bezuidenhout, whose win moves him to ninth in the Race to Dubai.
Not since the heydays of one Tiger Woods have we seen such a dominant performance. Denmark’s Emily Kristine Pedersen held her nerve to secure a dramatic play-off victory over Georgia Hall to win the inaugural Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by PIF. Hall had the advantage of a three-shot cushion with five holes to play but gutsy Pedersen clawed her way back following a rollercoaster round that included six birdies, four bogeys and one double bogey.
For a moment, there was a doubt. Dustin Johnson had just made back to back bogies at the 5th hole and he suddenly looked human. Surely, we were not going to see another Masters meltdown or Johnson falling at the final hurdle once again. Some fifteen minutes later, it was panic over and back to business as usual. DJ clicked into overdrive and the pack had no chance of catching him.
