Andy Sullivan took a one shot lead after round two of the English Championship, firing a nine-under par round of 62 as the sun shone on Hanbury Manor Marriott Hotel and Country Club. South African Dean Burmester matched Sullivan’s back nine 28 in a round of 63 that left him a shot off the lead alongside another Englishman in Laurie Canter, who recorded a 65.

Michael Thompson birdied two of the last three holes to hold off a late charge from Adam Long to record a two-stroke win at the 3M Open in Minnesota. Thompson had shared the overnight lead with Richy Werenski with Charl Schwartzel and Tony Finau two shots back but it was Long who set the target after a final round seven-under-par 64.

The R&A confirmed today that it intends to play the AIG Women’s British Open at Royal Troon from 20th to 23rd August without spectators due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be the first women’s Major Championship to be played this year and will be broadcast globally to more than 11 million fans.

Graeme is the second player to have to pull out of the Travelers Championship after his caddie Ken Comboy tested positive for COVID-19. Given the proximity player and caddie have been in for the last couple of weeks there is a risk the man from Northern Ireland may also have contracted the virus.

It was disappointing to hear of the cancellation of the Evian Championship but if France was going insist on a 14 day quarantine period for players the decision was inevitable. The loss of the Evian now puts even more importance on the Women's British Open which is due to be played at Royal Troon from 20th to 23rd August.

Blimey, that was quick, said the Missus as I walked in the door after my well-earned 18 holes of golf. Everything is relative, as I had left her kipping in bed as I grabbed the sticks and headed off at 8 o’clock that morning and was returning almost four hours later! In the past, I would not have been home for at least another hour or so.
