And they're off at the Olympics

Brazil’s Adilson da Silva took the opening tee shot of the Olympics this morning to end golf’s 112-year absence from the games.

He his drive to the right side of the fairway shortly after 8.30 am Rio time, which is 6.30 am Eastern Standard Time and 12.30 pm British Summer Time.

Australia's Marcus Fraser and Beglium's Thomas Pieters are the early leaders.

One shot behind is Byeong Hun An, Graham DeLaet, Espen Kofstad, Martin Kaymer and David Lingmerth.

Padraig Harrington is two under through 11.

Danny Willett is one under through six,  whilst Bubba Watson is T33 on plus one.

Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia have yet to go out.

The last group, featuring British Open winner Henrik Stenson, goes off at 10 a.m ET, which is 3 p.m British Summer time.
