Tour Championship Wrap

The Iceman Cometh

Here's our wrap on Day One of the final event in the FedEx, the Tour Championship. Only 30 in the field now. What's been occurring? Mostly Henrik Stenson if you must know.

We are off and running again, and now down to a field of 30. The chase is on for the $10,000,00 cheque. Lucky buggers. We’re only on the scratch cards, and fat chance there.

Anyway, never mind, we will get over our bitterness and try and celebrate the start of the final event of the FedEx play offs at the glorious East Lakes Golf Course in Georgia. But I’m afraid we may still be muttering under our breaths. We’re like that I’m afraid.

Today very much belonged to European Henrik Stenson who has been in great form of late, and seems to be peaking at exactly the right time.

Yes, he dumped in the water at the 16th at the Deutsche Bank, and therefore came second to Rickie Fowler, but he has quickly dusted himself down.

He only needs to come in third here to pull it off again and bag another $10,000,000 to add to his 2013 triumph. He could therefore win it all, without winning,

He went hell for leather on the first nine, with a superb bogeyless 29, which all got us excited about the magic 59. It wasn’t going to be, but we were super impressed by his sheer strength.

He had seven birdies and an eagle on the ninth, but dropped a shot on the 18th to finish seven under for the day.

We were also cheered by another great round from the Englishman, Paul Casey. He’s been threatening for a long now time, and we think it’s just a question of time before he lands his killer blow.

If Paul can tank it at the Tour Championship then his new young-un is taken care of for life. Pollyanna will be proud, and as we say, dead chuffed.

Casey shot a five under to finish second, one shot ahead of Rory McIlroy.

We can’t forget about Jason and Jordan. Both are very much in there with Jason shooting one under and Jordan two under.

But it’s only Day One. Let’s not get too carried way, yet!
