Rory McIlroy now not testing ankle this weekend

UPDATE:

According to the Irish Golf Desk Rory McIlroy willl not be testing out his ankle on Saturday.  Terry Prone, a McIlroy PR agent said "Not booked for such a round, still going through the ankle rehab process.”

ORIGINAL STORY:

Rory McIlroy has scheduled a Saturday practice round at Whistling Straits this weekend, site of next week’s PGA Championship, according to Reuters.  His Manager, Sean O’Flaherty, has apparently not responded to a request confirming this.

The world number one golfer has not played since injuring himself playing football with friends at a July 4th celebration. A ruptured ligament in his left ankle stopped him defending his British Open title at St. Andrews last month.

McIlroy won the US PGA Championship last year, beating Phil Mickelson by just one shot, after a superb back nine at Valhalla, and the news that he will be testing his ankle with a practice round this weekend could mean that he intends to play in next week’s match.

Let’s hope so!
