Rory beats Charl

In the Kitchen!

Rory McIlroy beat Charl Schwartzel in the Turkish Airlines Ready Steady Cook styled Open Gourmet Golfers Challenge at the Montgomerie Maxx Royal.

The event was staged to celebrate Turkish Airlines’ winning of the World’s Best Catering Service award for their on-board Flying Chefs.

Both players were given a mystery bag of ingredients, a sous chef and ten minutes to come up with a dish.

Rory went down the Mediterranean chicken dish route, while Charl went for a sturdier beef creation. The players then presented their dishes to Ahmet Agaoglu, the president of the Turkish Golf Federation, and Rory was announced as the winner.

But when Rory tasted Charl’s offering, he said: “He got it wrong, Charl, this is better than mine. You were robbed, mate,” to which Schwartzel responded: “I want a recount!”

Turkish Airlines also announced that they had renewed their deal as title sponsor of the Turkish Airlines Open for a further three years, which is welcomed news for the European Tour.
