Golfer sets golf course alight!

Shot sparks massive fire

Does anyone remember the first time you took a titanium driver to the driving range and just occasionally you'd see sparks if you caught the mat? I bet you never set anything alight though did you?

One golfer did in Orange County, California, as the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Course was set ablaze after a golfer clipped a rock at impact, sparking a huge fire into life. It sounds ridiculous to think of a shot causing a fire like that but the sparks, combined with a five year Californian drought, meant that the ground was the perfect kindling.

98 acres went up in flames, and it took three helicopters and 140 firefighters three hours to get the blaze under control.

This local news video shows the full extent of the fire!

Talk about getting on a hot streak!  But for those in the area you'll be glad to know that the course is open as usual.  Good work everyone involved.
