Golf and football in Portugal

You had us at Golf

Golfers from across Europe who also love their football eagerly accepted the invitation to indulge in their passion for both sports this month by taking part in ORIZONTE – Lisbon Golf’s ‘Derby & Golf Weekend’.

A group of more than 50 sports fans of all ages took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy a three-night, two-round golf break in Portugal’s capital – including a ticket to the Derby de Lisboa between Sporting Lisbon and Benfica.

Dating back to 1907, Sporting Lisbon against Benfica is one of the world’s oldest football rivalries, and golfers from countries including the football-mad nations of Sweden and Holland saw on-loan Fulham striker Kostas Mitroglou score the only goal of the game as Benfica moved to the top of the Primeira Liga table.

As well as football, the break for all golf and football fans featured 18 holes of golf at two of the finest courses in Lisbon’s Costa Azul region, Quinta do Peru Golf and Country Club – host of several European Challenge Tour events – and Aroeira, recently named as one of Europe’s Top 100 Courses.

An additional round of golf at Ribagolfe, a European Tour Qualifying School venue since 2009, was also available while all transfers to and from the golf courses were also included.
