DP Champions Day Two

The Wrap

Is it a Bird? Is it a Plane? No...It's Super Sullivan in Dubai.

Rory McIlroy's grip on being European Number One was tightened today in Dubai. The Northern Irishman has a two shot advantage over his nearest rival, Danny Willett. McIlroy produced a workmanlike effort to card a 68 on the second day. The two may have matched other blow for blow yesterday but today Rory showed exactly why he is the World Number Three.

McIlroy later said that, "I'm treating it like a normal event because I'm just here to win and I know if I win, then everything else will take care of itself," McIlroy added. "Just trying to focus on my own game and focus on myself and if I can do that, hopefully things work out the right way." Well Rory...if you continue with that game plan then come Sunday you'll be European Number One.

Justin Rose had a better day today finishing the day tied seventh. Carding a 66, six under par round has seen the Englishman place himself in a position to pounce come moving day tomorrow.  6 birdies and a bogey on the back nine showed just how dangerous he can be once his putter gets hot.

Yet, it is another Englishman who deserves the applause today. Andy Sullivan matched yesterday's round of 66...but today's was more convincing. A six under, bogey free perfect round had seen him lead the DP World Championships by One shot at the halfway stage. With three wins on the Tour this season...he'll be looking to make it an impressive fourth.

However, the round of the day doesn't go to any of the above. That place is reserved for a man who simply ripped the course to sheds today. Emiliano Grillo shot a amazing eight under bogey free round. Simply super golf...whilst Sullivan was sublime, Grillo was on another stratosphere. Yet this was only good enough for second place. Expect an interesting duel between the two.

So with Sullivan and Grillo taking the top two spots, McIlroy and Willett fighting it out for European Number One, a Rose growing in the deserts of Dubai not to mention a Young whipper snapper called Fitzpatrick

matching the big boys, it is only fair to say this. Moving day is going to have it all...and we can’t wait.
