Denmark soar to top of Golf World Cup

And China are the surprise package

Fancy a Danish? Well, a bet on them anyway. Soren Kjeldsen and Thorbjorn Olesen went out in 29 shots yesterday at the ISPS Handa World Cup Of Golf in Melbourne, and came back in 31 to soar to the top of the leaderboard.

It was a particularly impressive round considering the 12-under par 60 was achieved in southwesterly winds that were even stronger than the opening day at Kingston Heath.

"Fancy a danish, cheeky?"

OK, so it was fourballs, and the best score of two counts but it's still pretty bonkers. Europe could have done with some of that at Hazeltine. Anyway, moving on, at the halfway stage of the tournament, Denmark are now three ahead of China, with Spain one shot further back.

Olesen admitted that heading down 18 he couldn't help but acknowledge the fact that an eagle would have given the Danes a 59. Especially seeing as he'd just mullered a drive 404 yards down the middle of the fairway, leaving him 53 yards in. The pair couldn't quite manage the eagle but Kjeldsen made his birdie and a 60 was the result.

"I'm like a train, I arrive on time. He's the flashy one with an amazing game," Kjeldsen said.

"This is my favorite type of golf. You've got to control the ball and look at the angles. You don't just get up and whack it, you've got to think your way around."

China continue to be the surprise of the tournament as Wu Ashun & Li Haotong added an impressibeve 65 to their opening 70 and are in second place alone at -9.

United States representatives Kid Rick & Jimmy The walk  Rickie Fowler shot a five-under 67 to be in a four-nation tie for fourth, five shots behind the Danes heading into Saturday's foursomes.

They are joined on -6 by England's Andy Sullivan & Chris Wood, Italians Matteo Manassero & Francesco Molinari and the French pair Victor Dubuisson & Romain Langasque.

"Whatdyamean you've never heard of us?!"

It was a better day for the Scottish duo of Russell Knox and little heard of Duncan Stewart as they climbed off the bottom of the leaderboard with a round of 65 to make amends for an opening 78.
