Trio of cricket heroes to star

At this year’s Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship!

Swapping their cricket bats for golf clubs, Matthew Hoggard MBE, Ryan Sidebottom and Steve Harmison MBE are all heading to the Cromwell Course for this year’s Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship.

Taking place at Nailcote Hall between 7-10 August, the event welcomes numerous celebrities to the course including well-known sports stars. As three of the biggest names in English cricket, Matthew, Ryan and Steve are sure to attract significant crowds at this year’s championship.

Matthew ‘Hoggy’ Hoggard MBE is best known for being one of the stars of England’s 2005 Ashes Series win. The first time England had won the Ashes in over a decade, Matthew played a crucial role in the victory and remains in the top 10 England wicket takers of all time. Since retiring from the game, Matthew has remained active in the sport and has worked as a coach and pundit, sharing his immense knowledge on the game.

Likewise, Steve Harmison MBE was also a member of the 2005 Ashes winning team and was one of the best bowlers of his generation. Starting his career with Durham in 1996, he went on to play over 100 times for his country at every level of the game. Retiring from cricket in 2013, he went on to become a successful cricket commentator for Sky Sports, before spending time as a football manager.

Completing the trio of cricket legends, is former Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire bowler, Ryan Sidebottom. In total he won five County Championships during his highly successful career playing in 22 Tests and 25 ODIs for England along the way. He was a vital part of the team that won the World Twenty20 with England in 2010. Always wanting to share his knowledge on the sport with the next generation of players, Ryan opened his own cricket academy when he retired last year, and also now works as a bowling consultant with Surrey.

Joining these cricket legends at the championship will be two-time Major winner, Tony Jacklin CBE who is also acting as event host. Tony expressed great excitement about the trio’s participation in the event: “It is always good to see legends from a wide range of different sports compete at the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship, and in Matthew, Steve and Ryan, we certainly have some of the biggest names in cricket involved this year. All three are big golf fans and I’m looking forward to seeing how they get on at the Cromwell Course this year.”
