Top Betting Tips for Leopard Creek

With our resident Golf Spiv

Alfred Dunhill Championships

The season is over...time to relax. We wish! The Race to Dubai may have finished on Sunday but the new season on the European Tour kicks off on Thursday at the Leopard Creek Country Club in South Africa for the Alfred Dunhill Championship. Fancy placing a bet? Well these guys may be worth taking a punt on.

Branden Grace 9/2 (PaddyPower)

"I see that golf spiv fella has us at 9/2 this week..."

It was a great season for the South African last year and he’ll be looking to start the new one with a bang. On the course last year he simply smashed the opposition with a 7 stroke victory over fellow countryman Louis Oosthuizen. Plus he comes in fresh from his 3rd place at the DP World Tour Championships. No wonder the bookies have him as the clear favourite. With odds this short though...an Each Way bet would be pointless. If you are feeling brave go for Grace to win only.

Lucas Bjerregaard 20/1 (Ladbrokes)

"Next GolfPunk who calls me Budgerigar again gets a pasting..."

Can the Bjerregaard fly away with it? Possibly. One thing is for sure, he had a great end to the season. From September onwards he was on fire (With one exception). 2nd at the Hong Kong Open, T-3rd at the BMW Masters and Italian Open with a T-5th at the Porsche European Open...not bad is it against some pretty impressive opposition. This season he’ll be looking to build and pick up his first European Tour trophy. Could it be here?

Trevor Fisher Jr 50/1 (Ladbrokes)

Trevor Fisher: Ladies' Choice...

Winner of last season’s Africa Open, T-3rd at the Portugal Open and finished T-4th at this one last year.  Has pedigree especially when playing in his own country. 50/1 is a fair price for a inconsistant player...but he’s home and has proven to perform well on this course. He’ll think he has a chance...I’m inclined to agree with him. At 50/1 he has to be a good Each Way bet.

Paul Dunne 70/1 (Betfair)

This is how we do it in the pros...

Remember that kid who led the Open going into the final day? Well this is him. He may have wilted under the pressure of a Major championship but this will be his first tournament since gaining his European Tour card. If he can show that same form like he did at St Andrews then this kid can challenge...we hope so anyway. Could be a great Each Way here.

Tjaar Van Der Walt  125/1 (Betfair)

Yes, we'd never heard of him either...

Some people love three figure odds. I know I do. Sometimes it even pays off. Leishman did at the Open (Thanks Marc) so it would be unfair to disregard them. Van Der Walt has a good record at the Alfred Dunhill Championship. T-8th last year. Ok he won’t win...but if you are looking for a tasty Each Way...he could be it.
