GolfPunk gets a custom fitting

Precision Golf produce impressive results for our man

It has been almost a decade since a GolfPunk last visited Precision Golf in West Byfleet, Surrey, so we decided to check out the facility again. To test the club fitting service, we took a guinea pig with us, Chris (‘The Moz’) Morris, a keen golfer with a handicap index of 7.5 who required some help from the latest technology.

Precision has grown considerably since that last visit and is a mighty impressive state-of-the-art indoor golf facility. The club fitting operation is headed up by Co-founder Simon Cooper, who has a fantastic grasp of launch angles, ball speed, spin and the like.

The Precision Golf facility includes:
  • Three fitting bays, housing the acclaimed TrackMan 4 launch monitor.
  • A custom-designed workshop equipped with the latest cutting-edge club-building technology.
  • Putting suite for instruction with TrackMan 4 and CAPTO Precision Putting technology
  • Two more 5-metre wide bays are home to the latest TrackMan Simulator for 4D Motion Swing Instruction, customer equipment collections and recreational Trackman simulator use.
  • Musculoskeletal clinic offers biomechanical assessments and rehabilitation programs.
  • A fully-equipped gym for individual Personal Training.

The Moz had the Full Bag Club Fitting, which runs through the whole bag, excluding the putter, to see how a new set of weapons may help the game. It is not just about achieving those elusive extra yards off the tee, as custom fitting can help in many other ways.
For The Moz, it was clear that his current set of irons was too heavy for him, hurting his accuracy and also likely to add to his on-course fatigue. However, the most apparent gain of the session was when it came to looking at the driver.

Given that Chris’s Callaway driver was fifteen years old and had lost a weight off the back a gain in distance was expected but the results were awe-inspiring. The video of the driver fitting is well worth watching, and Simon certainly does his magic and produces a great result.
At the start of the driver fitting, The Moz achieved an average distance of 232 yards with the Callaway driver.
Forty minutes later, club and ball speeds were up, the spin rate was down, and the last hit went almost 30 yards further!

With an order placed for a new set, a smiling Moz headed home. The writer booked his session as there was no way he would let The Moz out-drive him!
