Thomas and Fitzpatrick to tee it up at Genesis Scottish Open

Latest stars to confirm their participation in Rolex Series event

Major champion Justin Thomas and seven-time DP World Tour winner Matt Fitzpatrick are the latest global stars to confirm their participation in the Genesis Scottish Open, the third Rolex Series event of the 2022 season.

Fans can buy tickets now at et.golf/GSO2022Tickets to see the stellar field - which also includes reigning Open Champion Collin Morikawa, three-time Major winner Jordan Spieth, Scotland’s number one Robert MacIntyre and defending champion Min Woo Lee – compete at Renaissance Club from July 7-10, 2022.
Former World Number One Thomas has an impressive CV that includes the 2017 US PGA Championship, two World Golf Championship titles and two Ryder Cup appearances. The 29-year-old has 14 PGA TOUR wins, most recently at the 2021 Players Championship, and made his first start as a professional in Scotland, the Home of Golf, at the 2013 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Thomas has recorded top ten finishes in his two previous appearances in Scotland’s national open in 2019 and 2021 and he will return to the Renaissance Club at the start of a new era as the historic event is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR for the first time and boasts a new title sponsor in Genesis, the luxury automotive brand from South Korea.
Thomas said: “I have a lot of great memories from playing in Scotland at different points in my career, and this is shaping up to be an exciting summer with the Genesis Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club, followed by The 150th Open in St Andrews. I’ve always said that I want to win around the world, and I would love to build on my previous results in this event and pick up a first Rolex Series title.”
For Rolex Series winner Fitzpatrick this will be a ninth consecutive appearance at the Genesis Scottish Open. The 27 year old came agonisingly close to lifting the trophy for the first time last season, reaching the play-off against Thomas Detry and champion Min Woo Lee.
He won his first Rolex Series title in 2020 after prevailing at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, and the most recent of his seven DP World Tour victories came at the iconic Real Club Valderrama last October, winning the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters less than a month after his second Ryder Cup appearance.
Fitzpatrick said: “I would love to add to my Rolex Series victories at the Genesis Scottish Open, particularly after coming so close last year. It’s a tournament that has been ever-present on my schedule throughout my professional career, and it’s exciting to see it co-sanctioned by both the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR this season. I’m looking forward to getting back to the Renaissance Club this summer and heading on to St Andrews the following week.”
The Genesis Scottish Open is co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR as part of a historic Strategic Alliance, counting on both the DP World Tour Rankings and the FedExCup.
The tournament benefits from the continued commitment of the Scottish Government, managed by VisitScotland, and retains its place in golf’s global calendar the week ahead of The 150th Open (July 11-17), as part of these agreements through to 2025. The player field will be a split between members of both the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR.
