Ombria Resort gears up for course opening

Luxury sustainable golf development scheduled for April 2023

Ombria Resort, the luxury sustainable golf development in the Algarve, is delighted to announce Salvador Costa Macedo as its new Director of Golf. With the highly anticipated opening of Ombria Resort’s golf course scheduled for April 2023, one of Salvador’s key priorities is to ensure that the grounds are in top condition and meet players’ expectations, a task that should be no problem for the new Director of Golf whose résumé impresses with 20 years experience in the field of golf in Portugal.

Salvador holds a degree in Business Management from the Universidade Lusiada with postgraduate degrees in Golf Course Management (University of Algarve), Golf (Faculty of Human Motricity) and a specialisation in Hospitality Management from the Association of Directors of Hospitality in Portugal (ADHP).
His knowledge has allowed him to work for high-profile companies such as the Portuguese Federation of Golf (FPG), the National Training Center of Jamor, Quinta do Peru Golf & Country Club and Penina Hotel & Golf Resort. Most recently, Salvador was Sales Golf Manager at Palmares Ocean Living & Golf and Amendoeira Golf Resort in the Algarve.

He comments: “My career has allowed me to work on some of the Algarve’s most prestigious golf courses but Ombria Resort, with its panoramic nature views, will take golfing in the Algarve to a new and exciting level. I am delighted to join the team and contribute to making this golf course a new regional highlight for golfers of all handicaps.”
Located in the inland Algarve, 7 km north of Loulé and 25 minutes from the beaches and Faro airport, the 18-hole golf course at Ombria Resort is one of the most-anticipated new courses in Portugal. Nestled in the heart of Ombria Resort, the golf course, par 71 of 5,802 meters, was designed by Jorge Santana da Silva and built according to the highest environmental sustainability practices. This allowed the course to be officially certified by the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf, a non-profit organisation dedicated to sustainable golf, as a recognition of environmental and social excellence.

To complement the new course, an equally exceptional Clubhouse will be built on the old walls of an existing ruin. Here, players can enjoy an array of amenities, including a bar and restaurant, golf shop, heated swimming pool, sauna and gym. Together with the Clubhouse, the 5-star hotel – the Viceroy at Ombria Resort – is under construction, with its 71 apartments, 70 rooms, five restaurants, swimming pools, conference centre, Spa and kids' club, which will be managed by Viceroy Hotels & Resorts.

Ombria Resort is a new residential development offering different types of homes for sale, including apartments, townhouses and villas, for investors looking for a permanent residence or a second home. Located in the  Algarve’s countryside, one of the most beautiful and well-preserved places in southern Portugal, the project reflects its commitment to sustainability, one of the fundamental principles of its owner, the Finnish Pontos Group.
