The sky's the limit for radical Palmares

Golf and skydiving anyone?

The five-star Onyria Palmares Beach & Golf Resort, in Portugal’s Algarve, has a radical solution for those nervous golfers who struggle to hole a crucial putt or hit their opening drive when everybody is watching. The award-winning resort, in Lagos, is to offer a stay-and-play package combining golf with ... skydiving!

The resort’s operations director, António Pinto Coelho, said: “Big problems require radical solutions – and skydiving is believed to have many benefits that can be a huge help for golfers, primarily psychologically and emotionally: stress relief; facing one’s fears and challenging oneself; creating confidence; and mental rejuvenation ... all of which would help a golfer.

“So we have partnered with Skydive Seven to offer an ‘Up and Down’ four-night package, which not only offers accommodation and golf at Palmares, but also includes a skydive with a highly qualified professional. And, even if you don’t choke over that crucial putt, it’s still a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

The four-night B&B deal is based at the five-star, boutique Onyria Palmares Beach House Hotel, which was recently voted the best in Portugal by readers of Luxury Lifestyle magazine. It includes three rounds of golf at Onyria Palmares Beach & Golf Resort – ranked in Portugal’s top three courses, by the world’s best-known golf title, Golf Digest – a skydive with the professional and highly certified Skydive Seven, transfers to and from the skydive location, and a complimentary copy of Dr Joseph Parent’s book Zen Golf, with prices from €710 per person.

The health and fitness benefits of skydiving have been championed by world renowned fitness instructor Samir Becic, author of ReSYNC® Your Life: 28 Days to a Stronger, Leaner, Smarter, Happier You.

His website, healthfitnessrevolution.com, quotes Becic saying: “When you skydive, you focus on what you are doing and on nothing else. You forget all your worries and the usual distractions of life. This intense focus with the adrenaline rush makes you feel cleansed both mentally and physically.

“If you can skydive, you can do anything. Skydiving is obviously a very extreme activity. It’s also a great way to help you realise that you’re stronger than you think you are. If you can skydive, you can do anything. Once you’ve conquered skydiving, you can count on the fact that you’ll be up to any challenge anytime.

“Training your mind and body to respond effectively, immediately and correctly to stressful inputs is one of those fundamental skills that surprisingly few people pick up.”

The Onyria Palmares Beach House Hotel has 18 rooms and two suites, each with a panoramic sea view and a balcony or terrace, and is within easy walking distance of the tees and practice area of the ever- popular golf course. The hotel also enjoys an outdoor swimming pool and a 180° bar and restaurant, with an expansive ocean vista – and all just 700m from the beach.
