Thorbjorn Olesen edges out Ian Poulter

For automatic Ryder Cup qualifying place

With his fourth place finish at the Nordea Masters Thorbjorn Olesen has narrowly edged out Ian Poulter for the final Ryder Cup automatic qualifying position.

He has qualified via the World Points list, and moves ahead of both Poulter and Casey, neither of whom played last week. Olesen is now chasing down Tommy Fleetwood to qualify through the European Points list, as his €75,000 pay day on Sunday puts him just €4,000 behind Tommy Fleetwood.

Poulter and Casey will both have a chance to move back in front next week as they are playing in The Northern Trust. The final qualifying week will include the PGA Tour event at TPC Boston and the Made in Denmark.

Olesen must also be making a very strong case for a wild card pick, as he won the Italian Open in June, and finished second at the BMW International Open.  With his fourth place position on Sunday, he has now made four top-12 finishes over his last five starts, so he is clearly is the in-form player.

The top four players from both lists on Sept. 2 will qualify for next month's matches, with captain Thomas Bjorn announcing his four selections on Sept. 4.
