Ian Poulter on the brink

PGA Tour card slipping away...

GolfPunk Hall Of Famer Ian Poulter is in serious danger of losing his PGA Tour car after shooting a first round 75 (+3) in the first round of the Valero Texas Open. He is tied for 128th place and needs a big second round to avoid missing the cut.

Playing his final tournament on a medical exemption after foot surgery last year, he needs to win at least £23,905 – basically a  top-30 finish. If yesterday was anything to go by this ain't gonna happen. Poults started with back to back bogeys and only recorded one birdie in a frustrating round.

If he loses his tour card, Poults will have some serious thinking to do about his future. He will need invitations from the PGA Tour to play in US events and while his legendary Ryder Cup status will make him a 'draw' for a while, it won't last indefinitely.

Come on Poults. 67 in round 2!
