Eddie Pepperell pulls out of his first WGC event

Back injury scuppers big pay day opportunity

Eddie Pepperell has been forced to withdraw from his first ever WGC event in Shanghai, China.

The Frilford Heath member was set to tee off at the HSBC Champions tournament but a back problem saw the World No 34, from Abingdon, withdraw and replaced by Australian Jason Scrivener at Sheshan International GC.

Pepperell must be gutted, as he headed into the event straight off the back of winning the British Masters – his second European Tour victory – just under a fortnight ago. There is no cut at WGC events so he would have been in line for a bumper payday wherever he finished, though recent form would suggest he could have contended here.

Hopefully see you back on track soonest, Eddie.
