Billy Horschel's wife Brittany reveals alcoholism

The day after Horschel's Byron Nelson Classic victory

Billy Horschel broke down in tears after winning the Byron Nelson and revealed he had been fighting something that he "just couldn't talk about right now".

The following day, however, Horschel's wife Brittany took to Twitter to reveal she was an alcoholic - but that her husband, to the detriment of his career, had helped her remain sober for a year.

Horschel has enjoyed a stop-start career since that dramatic day when he won the 2014 FedEx Cup. In fact, until Sunday's Byron Nelson Classic victory, Horschel barely troubled a leaderboard for three years.

Tour gossip was rife as players, caddies and officials tried to fathom what had gone wrong.

"I'm not able to talk about it right now," Horschel said through the tears on Sunday.

"One year ago, I began a journey to a healthy me; mentally and physically," she wrote. "I will keep this simple, 'I am an alcoholic.' I say that now without shame."

Here is Brittany's full and frankly extremely brave statement on Twitter:
