Royal Mid-Surrey to Host Two Elite Amateur Events in Same Week
London club to stage Peter Alliss Memorial & The Antlers in early July
Royal Mid-Surrey Golf Club, the inclusive and welcoming golf club in Richmond’s Old Deer Park, is hosting two major tournaments for elite amateur golfers on its famous JH Taylor course during the same week this summer.
Forty-eight players will compete for the trophy including the defending champion, England international junior Monty Holcombe. There are prizes down to sixth place, while the winner takes home £700. Entries close on 21 June.
The winners will be the pair with the lowest scratch score, with additional prizes for second and third scratch scores and pairs with a combined age of over 100. The defending Champions are Stephen Ross and William Shucksmith from Sunningdale Golf Club. Entries also close on 21 June.
In a joint statement, Club Captains David Mather and Julie Downs, said:
“Royal Mid-Surrey is proud to be hosting two such prestigious events that are open to accomplished men and women golfers. In particular, the club is honoured to have been chosen to host the Peter Alliss Memorial as Peter was a frequent visitor with his long-time friend and our club President and Walker Cup golfer Martin Christmas. Members were always flattered when the ‘Voice of Golf’ occasionally name-checked Royal Mid-Surrey when commentating. The J H Taylor designed course will be in fantastic condition and provide an enjoyable and exacting challenge for competitors in both events.”
Past winners include no fewer than 27 Walker Cup players including Amateur champions, Sir Michael Bonallack, Joe Carr and former Royal Mid-Surrey Club Secretary Michael Lunt.
JH Taylor was a five-time Open Championship winner and designed both the Championship course and the Pam Barton course, named after the US & British Open heroine and club member. For further details about these and other events at Royal Mid-Surrey, please contact: email@example.com.
