Why Pat Perez knew he wasn’t getting an invite

To Tiger Woods’ Hero Challenge

Pat Perez had a fine 2017 season, but he knew for sure that he was not going to be getting an invite to Tiger’s Hero Challenge in the Bahamas. Here’s why.

Pat does like to speak his mind, and this is what he had to say on his radio show about Tiger’s WD from the Dubai Desert Classic back at the start of the year.

“He knows he can’t beat anybody. He’s got this new corporation he started so he has to keep his name relevant to keep the corporation going. So he’s going to show up to a few events, he’s going to try to play…he’s going to show the Monster bag, he’s going to show the TaylorMade driver, he’s gonna get on TV. He’s got the Nike clothes, he’s gotta keep that stuff relevant.”

Perez was on the range in Shanghai with Dustin Johnson, just after his CIMB victory in Malaysia, which saw him move to No 18 in the world rankings.

Dustin Johnson wasn’t aware that the cut-off to qualify for the Hero World Challenge through the world rankings was a month earlier.

”You’ll get in,” Johnson told Perez.

”No chance,” Perez replied.

Johnson insisted that he would, so Perez turned and asked an onlooker, ”How many players are listed in the world ranking?”

He was told about 1,900 players.

Perez then turned back to Johnson and said, ”There are 1,899 players who have a better chance of getting in than I do.”

And it turns out that Perez was on the money, as Tiger and Daniel Berger received the final two places. And the lesson is – don’t diss the Tiger…..
