Victory for Trump

Over Trump International Aberdeen flagpole

All in all it’s turning out to be quite a week for the Trump. Firstly he wins the Presidency of the USA, and now there’s victory for him in Scotland over the flagpole on his Aberdeenshire course.

OK, it’s a very minor victory versus securing the Presidency of the USA, but a win’s a win as they say.

The 25-metre-tall flagpole was put up without planning permission at Trump International Golf Links in Scotland.

When the relevant approvals were sought retrospectively, a committee at Aberdeenshire Council refused in April to grant full permission for the flagpole "on the grounds of the visual impact... due to its scale".

But Trump has now been allowed to keep the structure following an appeal to Scottish ministers. It must help if you are President Elect of the USA, and soon to be ‘leader of the free world.’ Gulp.

A spokesman for Trump International Golf Links in Scotland said: "We are pleased that our appeal to fly our national flag was successful and that common sense has prevailed."

Trump International Aberdeen has been deeply controversial locally, with members of the community saying he broke promises on creating jobs and rode roughshod over concerns about construction.
