Victory for Ha Na Jang

At the Coates in Florida

No 35 in our series of wierd golf trophies.

It was maiden victory time for South Korean Ha Na Jang yesterday at the Coates Golf Championship in Ocala, Florida.

Jang burst into tears when she rolled in a birdie at the 18th to seal the deal. After four-second place finishes last year, her relief was palpable.

Jang admitted: "It’s been affecting me the way I play because they’re competitors and they’re good friends," the 23-year-old told reporters.

"I put a lot of pressure on myself, but I worked very hard, so finally I got there and have the win. From now on, I’m going to be able to relax a little bit more, focus more on upcoming tournaments."

Jang posted a final score of 72 to finish 11 under at 277, which was two better than 18 year-old Canadian Brooke Henderson. World number one, Lydia Ko, finished in third alongside Chun In-gee and Kim Sei.

It was a long old day for Jang, who had to play 30 holes as she had to complete her third round with a dawn start.

Heavy rain in the afternoon meant that staff had to use leaf blowers to clear puddles from the greens.

But she managed to get over the line, and then the tears erupted. Fair play!
