Total devastation as fire rages at Cottesmore Golf Club
Club closed after mass evacuation
A mass evacuation took place at Cottesmore Golf & Country Club as a devastating fire took out half the clubhouse near Gatwick, UK.
The fire started at about 5pm on Monday (June 11) and a video taken at the scene shows flames engulfing the building and thick black smoke filling the sky.
A West Sussex Fire and Rescue spokesman said the first call came in at 5.03pm and at 8.30pm there were 10 appliances, plus specialist vehicles, at the scene. Firefighters are using water jets, ladders and an aerial ladder platform to tackle the flames. The spokesman added that crews were expected to be at the scene throughout the night.
Cottesmore has 27 holes of golf, a 21-bedroom hotel, seven self-catering golf course lodges, a modern health club, a 15-metre pool, a hot tub, sauna and steam room, two outdoor tennis courts and a newly refurbished beauty salon.
It is closed until further notice.
