The BBC Open Debacle

Good Work Michael Cooper!!

Jordan Spieth in full agreement with Michael Cooper.

SIR – It is ironic that the BBC has decided to discontinue its live coverage of the Open Championship a year early in 2016, the same year that golf is to be readmitted to the Olympics at Rio.

Our national broadcaster has missed a golden opportunity to promote a revived Olympic sport to the whole nation and inspire people of all ages to try out a game that keeps one fit and teaches its players the universally endorsed virtues of application, sportsmanship and comradeship.

With the live coverage of our premier annual golf championship now left to the minority pay-per-view channels, the sport will become further marginalised. As the number of golf players in Britain continues to decline, the BBC and the R&A (golf’s governing body) will need to take responsibility.
