Popular golf centre secures future

Glendale Golf to the rescue

A popular golf centre at the heart of one of England’s largest cities has had its future secured until at least 2025.

Customers and staff at Edwalton Golf Centre, on the south eastern outskirts of Nottingham, are celebrating this week after Glendale Golf announced that it has signed a contract to manage the venue on behalf of Rushcliffe Borough Council for a further nine years.

Glendale Golf, one of the UK’s leading golf club operators, has also committed to an investment programme which will see a wide range of facilities at Edwalton GC upgraded over the next twelve months.

“This is fantastic news for the community” said Simon Robinson, Deputy Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council. “It removes any uncertainty about Edwalton Golf Centre’s future, and we can all now look forward to enjoying this valuable local leisure hotspot for many years to come.

“We recognise and appreciate that Glendale Golf has shown great trust and faith not only in the golf centre, but also in the local area and its residents. We look forward to working closely with them in the future.”

Glendale Golf has been running Edwalton GC since 2002. It recently appointed a new management team at the centre, which is on Wellin Lane close to the A52 ring road between Edwalton and Tollerton.

Tom Brooke, Managing Director of Glendale Golf, said: “We are happy to make this emphatic commitment to the future of one of the country’s leading public golf centres. I know that this will be welcome news to the thousands of people in the Rushcliffe borough and beyond who embrace Edwalton Golf Centre in their lives year in, year out. It is right at the heart of the local community, and as well as providing a vibrant, affordable pay-and-play golf experience, our recent addition of FootGolf has also made it a great place for all kinds of families to enjoy their leisure time here, whether they are golfers or not.

“Recent visitors to Edwalton GC will have seen that our programme of improvements is well underway. Today’s announcement is an important milestone in the history of a much-loved local facility, and we will continue to drive quality standards here ever higher.”

The practice range at Edwalton GC has already been upgraded with a smart new look, and newly-appointed Centre Manager Simon Williams and his team are actively implementing other refurbishment plans, particularly in the bar, restaurant and function areas.

“Generations of local golfers have learnt to play the game here at Edwalton” he said, “and we are massively excited for the future. There’s nowhere better than Edwalton for beginners to learn golf, for miles around.”

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s John Cottee, who as Cabinet Member for Communities heads the council’s sports and leisure team, said: “Glendale Golf’s staff at Edwalton Golf Centre have brought huge amounts of young people into sport over recent years, and we urge all residents to come and try this high quality local sports facility in even greater numbers over the next year.

“The borough of Rushcliffe offers great sport, great lifestyle and a great place to live, and it is fantastic to have Edwalton’s place at the heart of the area secured until well into the next decade.”

Edwalton Golf Centre boasts Nottinghamshire’s longest main 9 Hole golf course, plus an attractive 9 Hole Par 3 course, a 9 hole FootGolf course, a golf clinic, a golf retail store and a large putting green – all open to the public. A generously large patio area and refreshment facilities also make it the perfect place to just drop in for a coffee and relax.

“Edwalton Golf Centre now represents a long-term opportunity for Glendale Golf to grow the sport in the Nottingham area and beyond” said Tom Brooke. “We are thrilled to be able to look into the future with such confidence.”
