Pieters Pounds It To Victory!!!

The Belgian bomber wins Czech Masters

Big bombing Thomas Pieters became only the third Belgian to win on the European Tour, taking the D+D REAL Czech Masters. Despite a double bogey on the front nine Pieters romped to a three shot victory over Pelle Edberg at the Albatross Golf Resort in Prague.

Matt Fitzpatrick came in third, the former US Amateur Champion is one to watch, and started his final round with four consecutive birdies.

But it was definitely Pieters' day. The 23 year old absolutely smashes it off the tee, and was averaging 320 years off the tee, over 6 yards further than the next longest hitter. Despite his mammoth tee shots, he was also very accurate hitting 66.7% of fairways, making him the 24th most accurate driver this week. If driving is for show (it’s not), and putting for dough (it is) Pieters also dominated that stat being number one averaging just 26.7 putts per round, a full shot lower than anyone else in the field.

Just put that in perspective, that’s longer than Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson and less putts per round then Jordan Spieth has averaged this season. We’re not saying he’s capable of this every week, but that’s some serious balling there. We wish we knew what it was in the air that makes the Belgians hit it so far, between him and Nicky Colsaerts they’ve got the driving distance thing down. I’d buy it if they could sell it, they hit it further than I manage to go on holiday. Talking of which…

“It was special having my family here with me. I called them yesterday and they were in Belgium. For them to be here right now is pretty cool that they can experience this with me.
"They drove through the night to get here. It is a nine hour journey, but it is great to have them here."

“It’s great to get a victory so early in my career. There are so many players out here that maybe haven’t won, or who have just won once, so I am really happy right now.”

Pieters lost in a play off to the coolest man in golf, Miguel Angel Jimenez last year at the 2014 Open de España, and came fourth in Abu Dhabi earlier this season. Keep your eyes peeled on this kid.
