Lee Westwood victorious at Hero's Challenge

In dream final against Sergio Garcia

Tournament host Lee Westwood had the dream start to his hosting of the British Masters, as he defeated Sergio Garcia in the third staging of the Hero Challenge.

Thousands of fans packed around a specially constructed 120-yard par three on Close House's 18th hole to watch the third staging of the event.

Westwood beat Ross Fisher and Martin Kaymer to head into the final against Garcia, who beat Miguel Angel Jimenez and Bernd Wiesberger on his journey to the final.

In the final, both players found the green off the tee and posted two-putt pars, but Westwood secured his victory by pitching closest in the nearest-the-pin shootout.

"It's a great way to kick off the tournament," said Westwood. "It's different and I really enjoyed it. I didn't expect to win, I have to admit, but it is a great start to the week and it was good fun playing against Sergio in the final."
