Is the PGA parking its tanks

On the European Tours greens?

According to a report in The Guardian, The PGA Tour is parking its tanks on the European Tour’s greens by opening a base in London.

A new central London office is now operational with an immediate focus on media rights and tournament sponsorship, but an official announcement is not expected until later this summer.

The PGA Tour will be attempting to secure sponsors in direct competition to the European Tour.

The European Tour has not commented on the news that the PGA Tour has been parking its tanks on their greens, but The Guardian is reporting that are actually quite relaxed about it.  That might change if they are successful in luring a big sponsor away.

European Tour CEO, Keith Pelley has insisted Europe will provide “a viable alternative to the PGA Tour”.

The European Tour’s Rolex Series will mean enhanced prize funds for certain tournaments, and kicks off at next week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. But this weekend the purse at the Players Championship was $10.5 million, against the Portugal Open’s £428,830.
