Irish eyes almost smiling

Allen takes Ladies Masters

American Beth Allen may have won the ISPS Handa Ladies European Masters, but the day belonged to Irish upstart Leona Maguire.

The world number one amateur 18 year old from Ireland made six birdies in a final round 69. A bogey at the par 3 final hole at the Buckinghamshire, after failing to get up and down meant she has missed out on making the playoff by a single shot.

For Allen the win felt like a karma, after losing the title in 2012 after a triple bogey on the 71st hole. Allen had former Solheim cup star Sophie Gustafson on her bag this week, “Sophie really kept me grounded and I ended up getting it done."

Top 50 GolfPunk, 51 year old Laura Davies finished in joint seventh, having made the 11th ace of her career on the seventh hole.
