Witnesses describe seeing smoke coming from the dunes at the course, whilst another described seeing fire units, police cars and an ambulance attending the fire.

The golf club issued the following statement: "The fire started at our reservoir behind the 13th tee and has taken out all the rough ground between the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th holes.

"It’s now under control by a great team of firefighters."
