Holy cow!

Look what got washed up on a golf course!

Holy Cow!

According to a report in Golf Management News, a farmer has told how a member of staff at Eden Golf Club in Cumbria found one of his pregnant cows on the golf course, after the poor creature had been swept 18 miles along a river.

The event happened during the storms and flooding at the end of last year, when the farmers 45 cows were swept away from his farm. Four drowned, but two survived, even though they went over a waterfall.

But one of the cows, an in-calf heifer, was swept nearly 20 miles down the River Eden, and was found on a fairway at Eden Golf Club.

According to the member of staff at the golf club who found her said she was unharmed and was placidly munching on grass at the edge of one of the greens.

Farmer Gordon Tweedie said: “We had a call from the man at the golf course which is down beyond Carlisle, probably 20 miles from us, and he said: ‘I’ve got a heifer of yours here. She’s eating away there beautifully and we can’t believe she’s come so far and survived the experience’.

“We were just gobsmacked that such a miracle had happened. The state the river was in, it was beyond hope we felt that anything could survive that experience.”
