Ha Na Jang to defend HSBC Women’s Champions

At Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore

Reigning champion Ha Na Jang has confirmed that she will defend her title at the 2017 HSBC Women’s Champions, taking place at Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore 2 – 5 March 2017.

The tenth edition of the HSBC Champions will take place for the first time on the recently renovated New Tanjong course after four years on The Serapong at Sentosa.

Jang, who become the third South Korean after Jiyai Shin (2009) and Inbee Park (2015) to hold aloft the prestigious trophy in March, famously celebrated her ninth title with a now famous Beyoncé-inspired jig on the 18th green.

Jang commented, “I can’t wait to get back to Singapore where I have such special memories from this year’s tournament. It was such a big title to win and amazing to have my name on the trophy alongside so many great champions and I can’t wait to return as the defending champion.  Last year we could see all the hard work the Sentosa Golf Club team were putting into the renovations on The New Tanjong course and from what I hear, they have obviously paid off. The conditions in Singapore suit me very well and I am hoping The New Tanjong course will suit my game just as much as The Serapong did.”

Sentosa Golf Club President, Low Teo Ping said, “Sentosa Golf Club has been the proud host to the HSBC Women’s Champions for four years now and we are very much looking forward to the 2017 installment. We are delighted by the results of our ambitious renovation project on The New Tanjong course which we have opened to members to great acclaim this week. It will be intriguing to see how the world’s best women take on the new challenges of this course and we look forward to welcoming them back in a few months’ time.”

Giles Morgan, Global Head of Sponsorship & Events at HSBC, said, “The way Ha Na Jang’s amazing performance and personality stole the show at this year’s event was very special. Sentosa Golf Club has now presented our tournament with a wonderful new stage – The New Tanjong - on which the world’s best women golfers will showcase their talents next year. Along with the change of course, we have seized the opportunity to change and enhance the spectator experience and hope players and spectators alike will enjoy a fresh feel and experience. Rio 2016 showed how golf can reach new audiences – both in volume and demographics – and we want to capitalise on that as some of the stars from the Olympics line up in Singapore for what promises to be another thrilling week.”
