Golf Spiv calls the Scottish Open

Here's where the value really lies

The Scottish Open is really the last chance for players to get their game ready ahead of the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. Some will really need it. Rory McIlroy’s missed cut at the Irish Open suggests that he will come to Dundonald Links with something to prove. He starts as the second favourite behind Rickie Fowler. Then there is also the current Open Champion, Henrik Stenson to think about as well.

It’s a star–studded event as the Rolex Series continues with a prize fund of $7 million. However, none of the above has caught my eye given their prices at the bookies. The field is just too good to limit yourself to the top three players. So here is how the Spiv is going for at the Scottish Open.

Alex Noren: 18/1 (BetFred)

Noren likes it Scotland that is for sure. He enters as the current Scottish Open champion but also finished in a tie for 11th at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. The links style of golf seems to come naturally to Noren who also finished second at the Paul Lawrie Matchplay. Expect Noren to give a top performance as he defends this one.

Adam Scott: 25/1 (Bwin)

Scott is another player who adjusts his game to the links well. A strong Open record where he finished in the top 5 between 2012-14. He has also shown some strong form on the PGA Tour. At 25/1 he is well worth considering as he aims to start his Open challenge.

Ross Fisher: 40/1 (Ladbrokes)

Fisher is having a fantastic season on the European Tour this year. Six top 10 finishes in 2017 also include great performance against the big boys at the WGC Mexico and Matchplay. His last four events on the Tour have all been in the top 10 and he will relish the challenge of links golf. He finished in a tie for second at the Alfred Dunhill so has the game to make a serious challenge here.

Tyrell Hatton: 55/1 (BetFred)

Hatton may have struggled at the Irish Open but now he knows he will need to find something. Scotland is the perfect place for him to do this. It seems to bring out the best in Hatton. Winner of the Alfred Dunhill last year, second at the Scottish Open last time out and a tie for fifth at the Open in Royal Troon. Does he like playing in Scotland? Just a bit. Well worth an Each Way here.

Richie Ramsay 80/1 (Bet365)

With his place at Royal Birkdale secure, Ramsay will look for further improvement in front of his home fans. Second at the Irish Open and sixth at this event last year, the Scotsman will see this as ideal preparation for The Open. Such a great price considering his performance last week. Well worth an Each Way.
