GB Olympic Squad Announced

Strong team for Rio

Danny Willett, Justin Rose, Catriona Matthew and Charlie Hull have been named as the golfers who will represent Great Britain at the Olympic games on its return to the rota, marking Golf’s third appearance at the games 102 years after its second!

Former US Open champion Justin Rose and newly crowned Masters champion Danny Willett will compete in the 72-hole stroke play tournament that begins on the 11th of August for Team GB. With the likes of Justin Day, Jordan Speith and Rory McIlroy recently withdrawing from the Olympics  Zika virus fears,  we reckon we've got one of the strongest squads in the event.

England Golf ambassador Justin Rose said “The Olympics is a fantastic opportunity to bring golf to a much wider global audience, which in turn should help to inspire people across the country to take up sports such as golf. Lots of young people dream of being an Olympian and a Team GB success in Rio will encourage kids all over the country go to their local club or range and start swinging a club.”

Charlie Hull also praised Golf’s inclusion in the games, claiming “For golf to be included in this year’s Olympics is hugely exciting. Golf is a game for everyone and the Olympics will help to make people realise this and hopefully inspire them to give it a go.”

Hull sighting its social factors and benefits to health as great reasons to pick up the game “Golf is a great game to play with your friends and family – it’s very social, quite relaxing and you can burn around 600-700 calories playing a round of golf!”

Come on guys, bring back the gold for blighty.
