Don Goodman overcomes tricky Cromwell course

To win the week's second Celeb-AM

Wolves legend Don Goodman has won the second Celeb-Am at this year’s Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship with a score of +3.

Geordie Shore’s Gary Beedle, Love Island’s Chris Hughes, former Scotland manager, Gordon Strachan OBE and ex-England rugby player Austin Healey, are just some of the celebrities who took part in the final Celeb-Am event today. However, it was the former Wolves striker who reigned supreme over them all taking the day’s win.

Goodman’s fiercest competitors came in the form of ex- Aston Villa midfielder, Lee Hendrie and BBC Sport and news presenter, Dan Walker, who shot rounds of +8 and +5 respectively, but Goodman’s round saw him bag four birdies and he managed to clinch victory.

Thunderstorms and subsequent rain delays kept the celebrities on their toes throughout the day, as did the handful of professionals who spiced up the competition and included the likes of former U.S. Senior Open winner, Larry Laoretti and U.S. open winner Michael Campbell. The latter won for the professionals with a score of +1.

Two-time Major winner and Europe’s most successful ever Ryder Cup Captain, Tony Jacklin CBE, was the host of the week’s proceedings. He was on hand to comment on Don scooping the Celeb-Am title:

“All of the celebrities today put in a solid effort and there were some pretty impressive scores flying about, none less of course than Don Goodman who was a deserving winner. It was tightly contested at several points in the day, but in the end his score was unbeatable.

“I think the thing that makes the Celeb-Am events so special at the BP3 is that they are literally anyone’s game. A real mix of names and ability are present on the course and the leaderboard is constantly changing – which certainly keeps things interesting.”

The team aspect to the Celeb-Am saw one celeb join a team of three other players giving the day an extra element of competition. 30 teams took part this year, with a whole host of sponsored teams involved including Headline Sponsors Farmfoods, Kelloggs, Carlsberg and Birdseye. It was the two Farmfoods teams who dominated play with Farmfoods 1 coming out on top, just one stroke ahead with a score of -9.

With today marking the second of two Celeb-Ams at the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship, Don is the second name to walk away with the Celeb-Am title this week. On Tuesday, which saw yet another all-star line-up, it was Irish football legend, Steve Staunton who triumphed with an extremely competitive score of +1.

The end of today’s Celeb-Am concludes the 2018 edition of the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship. Did you miss out on the week of action? You can read all of the news from the week by visiting: http://britishpar3.com/news.
