Charley Hull felled by illness

Melissa Reid forced to play 4-balls alone

Melissa Reid had to go it alone in the UL International Crown 4-Balls yesterday after Charley Hull was hit by illness.

"Feeling poorly are ya?"

Hull made six birdies and an eagle with Reid to beat USA's Lewis & Piller on Thursday but was unable to continue with play after being felled by asthma and a fever. Melissa made a decent fist of proceedings and fought back from two-down after holing out for an eagle on the 16th to level the match but was eventually undone, losing by one hole.

"I'm just really, really pleased I had a chance of even a point," she said.

Interestingly, the rules state that Charley could have rejoined the match even after Reid started the match alone. Makes sense really, it's 4-balls and well, just makes sense. Which is the only surprising thing, that it made sense... anyway, while Charley was sitting in an ambulance next to the 1st tee, Melissa cracked on at the Merit Club in Gurnee.

Charley later said: "At the advice of the medical team, the best thing to do was to rest and get healthy for my team for Sunday."

Get well, Charley and good luck in today's matches.

In the other match, Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Holly Clyburn halved with Ai Suzuki and Ayaka Watanabe to leave England top of Pool B on five points.

Japan and Thailand share second on four points, with the USA propping up the pool with three.
