Alexander Bjork claims maiden European Tour Victory

At the Volvo China Open

Alexander Bjork has claimed his maiden European Tour victory at the Volvo China Open in his 44th appearance.

He shot a seven under par 65 to finish on 18 under and one shot clear of Spain’s Adrian Otaegui.

The 27-year-old Swede had a perfect round, with three birdies on the front nine, and a further four on the back nine, with not a single shot dropped.

He started the final round a shot off the lead, but his perfect 7 under round was enough to fend off Otaequi by a single shot, and a pack of Jordan Smith, Matt Wallace, and Jorge Campillo, who all finished 2 shots back at 16 under.

Jordan Smith was the clubhouse leader at 16 under, shooting a round of 64, which included 8 birdies and, again, not a single dropped shot. The 25-year-old from Bath is clearly one to watch for the future with this kind of final round performance.

But birdies from Bjorn on the 15th and 17th put paid to his hopes, and left the Swede only needing a par on the 18th to seal the deal and his maiden victory.
